Leigh Centurions 11-4 Halifax RLFC
Leigh see off Halifax
Leigh cut the gap to Halifax to just two points in the Kingstone Press Championship by securing an 11-4 home victory against the Yorkshire side.
Jonathan Pownall's try on the stroke of half-time for the home side was the only score of a first half in which Leigh had Anthony Bate red-carded in an incident that also saw Halifax's Ben Heaton given his marching orders.
A penalty and a drop goal from Martyn Ridyard in the space of four minutes put Leigh 7-0 up and although Wayne Reittie crossed for the visitors it was too little, too late and Gregg McNally's score right at the death sealed the victory.
