Skolars secure draw

Robert Thomas' converted try three minutes from time earned London Skolars a 30-30 Kingstone Press Championship 1 draw with Oxford.

The Skolars made a bright start and tries from John Paxton and Michael Worrincy, both bettered by Dylan Skee, guided them into a 12-0 lead after 20 minutes.

But Oxford fought back and tries from Alex Thompson, Matty Hadden and Kenny Calladine along with a Jonny Leather goal sent the hosts into the interval with a slender 14-12 lead.

Oxford increased their lead early in the second half with tries from Olivier Johnson and Tommy Connick, Jimmy Rowland converting both.

Andy McLean got the Skolars back into the game with a try and Skee added the goal before both sides were reduced to 12 men when Oxford's Chris Clarke and London's Oliver Purslow were sent off with 17 minutes remaining.

Skee then went over and added the extras before Oxford's Matt Fiander crossed in the 71st minute to again stretch their lead.

But Thomas' late score, converted by Skee, ensured the honours were even.
