St Helens and Hull KR will round off week one of the Super League play-offs at Langtree Park on Saturday (5.00pm) when the losers’ season will be ended and the winner will progress to take on either Huddersfield Giants or Wigan Warriors to keep their Grand Final hopes alive.

Hull KR have won all three meetings between the sides this year, but with home advantage and a good run of form in their favour St Helens go into the game as heavy favourites and full-back Paul Wellens believes the side are hitting their peak at the perfect time.

“We’re feeling very good; I’d say confidence is as high as it’s been all season so it’s left us in the best frame of mind possible,” said Wellens.

“The play-offs have probably come along at the right time for us. Our form doesn’t necessarily give us an edge over other teams, it just boosts our confidence and improves our own self-belief.

“But we can't look any further than Hull KR on Saturday; when you do that you can be digging your own grave. It'd be disrespectful not to acknowledge the challenge they pose.

“They're a great side and we know that more than most this year, but what's gone on previously doesn't help you to win games. We've got a lot of lads here playing really well.”

Hull KR have made the play-offs for a third time in four years after missing out last season and Saturday’s fixture could be Michael Dobson’s last game for KR before returning to the NRL.

The half-back has signed for Newcastle Knights but does not feel that his last opportunity for success with Hull KR adds any extra incentive.

“I think we've got enough incentive to win,” said Dobson. “It's a new challenge for a lot of us and we're all looking forward to it.

“Everyone wants to be in the Grand Final and everyone wants to do as well as we can and that’s what we’re aiming for.”
