Elston leaves Wildcats

James Elston has resigned from his role of chief operating officer at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

James Elston has resigned from his role of chief operating officer at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

Elston, who stepped down from the post of chief executive during the club's recent restructuring, is ending a 12-year association with the Wildcats, although he will remain as a member of the Wakefield Community Trust.

"Having spent nearly 12 years at the club, I have made the difficult decision to resign," Elston said.

"I have some great memories and thank all the staff and fans for their support over the years."

Wakefield chairman Michael Carter, who took over the reins from Andrew Glover last month, has taken steps to safeguard the immediate future of the financially-stricken club after revealing a £400,000 shortfall.

Ten days ago, Carter announced the appointment of former Hull FC chairperson Kath Hetherington, an ex-Rugby Football League president, as consultant chief executive.

Carter said: "I would like to personally thank James for all his considerable efforts, especially over the last three years. His enthusiasm, knowledge and manner, especially on match days, will be sorely missed. Everyone at the club wishes James well in all his future endeavours."
