RFL statement: DCMS meeting
RFL Chief Executive Nigel Wood today attended a meeting at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport with representatives of other major sports governing bodies, the Gambling Commission, Sports Minister Helen Grant and Culture Secretary Maria Miller to discuss issues surrounding match fixing and sporting integrity.
The meeting followed the arrest of the National Crime Agency arresting six people in an investigation relating to spot fixing in professional football and concluded with all parties agreeing to work collaboratively and share best practice.
Nigel Wood said: “The RFL has robust and well-established policies in place that I was able to outline at what was a very positive and open meeting.
“Whilst we have not encountered the level of problems that other sports have experienced, we remain vigilant and will continue to work with the Gambling Commission and other external agencies to do all we can to tackle this issue.
“I was pleased to have the opportunity to give our unequivocal commitment to help maintain the integrity of Rugby League and to work with other sports to share best practice.”
