Wigan set up Tomkins reunion
Wigan Warriors could face a quick reunion with Sam Tomkins after confirming a friendly against their former star's new side New Zealand Warriors next year.
Tomkins, the England full-back, recently signed for the Kiwi outfit from Wigan for a world record fee of around £700,000.
The Super League champions have now announced they will play their Warriors namesakes in New Zealand as a warm-up for the World Club Challenge against NRL premiers Sydney Roosters early next season.
The match will take place at the Waikato Stadium in Hamilton on February 12, 10 days before Wigan take on the Roosters at Sydney's Allianz Stadium.
Wigan coach Shaun Wane said: "Playing the Warriors in Hamilton will be a great experience for our squad and is excellent preparation ahead of our World Club game in Sydney.
"It is a trip we are all looking forward to and we are delighted to have been able to arrange this historic meeting between the two Warriors clubs in what should be a tough competitive work out."
New Zealand Warriors, who have a working relationship with Wigan, have another former Cherry and White favourite in their ranks in Thomas Leuluai.
Wigan chairman Ian Lenagan added: "We hugely appreciate the Vodafone Warriors being able to help us as we prepare for the World Club Challenge against the Roosters.
"It's been 20 years since the Challenge was last played in Australia and we are doing all we can to be ready for the contest.
"Quite apart from the importance of the warm-up game, being able to bring the two Warriors clubs together like this for the first time is great, not just for us but for the fans and the game itself."
Warriors chief executive Wayne Scurrah said: "This is a fantastic joint-venture opportunity for our two clubs and another sign of how we would like to continue to work together."
