Clubs urged to join in Big Event
The RFL is calling on community Rugby League clubs to throw open their doors to the local community in early April as part of a national initiative to grow membership in community clubs.
It follows a successful “Welcoming Clubs” campaign in October 2013, which saw volunteers from 66 clubs attend workshops designed to help community clubs capitalise on interest generated by the Rugby League World Cup.
The Big Rugby League Open Day will be held over the weekend of April 12/13 and all community clubs from across the country are being encouraged to take part.
Clubs are invited to register for a series of free workshops designed to provide expert guidance on how to run a great open day and invite members of their local community to join the club.
The workshop dates are as follows:
TUESDAY MARCH 18
The Octagon Centre
MONDAY MARCH 10
Golborne Parkside, Warrington
WEDNESDAY MARCH 12
THURSDAY MARCH 13
MONDAY MARCH 17
Shaw Cross Sharks, Dewsbury
WEDNESDAY MARCH 19
THURSDAY MARCH 20
FRIDAY MARCH 21
MONDAY MARCH 24
MONDAY MARCH 31
The Football Foundation, London
“The passion within our community clubs is incredible and we wanted to build on the success of the Rugby League World Cup 2013,” RFL Director of Participation and Strategic Partnerships David Gent.
“The aim of the campaign is to encourage community clubs to engage with their local community and gain practical advice on how to drive club recruitment through a really well run open day.”
All clubs attending the workshops will receive a free resource pack to help run their day and advertise to the local community. Furthermore, each club will receive free advice and mentoring to help problem solve and plan their day in the run up to the weekend.
