Castleford Academy Boys 20 v 18 South Holderness Boys
The second game saw Castleford Academy take the field against South Holderness.
South Holderness were quick to apply the pressure and earn good field position early on which eventually led to Joe Holmes going over in the corner, conversion unsuccessful.
Academy responded through a superbly worked set piece which saw Cameron Smith crash onto a deft inside ball and consequently level the scores.
Morgan Smith's kick clattered the uprights and scores remained locked at four each.
Both teams were matching each other play by play, however South Holderness restored their advantage thanks to a second by Joe Holmes who backed himself to race in at the corner.
Yet another hard conversion attempt in difficult conditions saw the conversion fall short of the posts.
Academy looked to find a chink in their oppositions armour just before half time and stand-off Morgan Smith eyed a gap in the defence and raced over from ten meters out under the posts, Smith converted to edge Academy in front at half-time.
The second half saw Academy get the upper hand early on and began applying pressure which eventually was too much for South Holderness, Jordan Hughes going over to extend their lead.
Morgan Smith brilliantly converted from the sideline to give Academy an important eight point gap.
Holderness knew they had to take chance and unfortunately an error in their own half gave Academy a good chance to potentially wrap the game up.
Castleford sent the ball wide and Liam Beckitt kept the defence honest before just getting over the line in the right corner, conversion unsuccessful.
With ten minutes left on the clock time was against Holderness but they managed to cross in the corner through Chris Skelton, again the conversion was unsuccessful.
The last five minutes saw Holderness press once more and Scrum Half Brad Claverine forced his way over, with Harvey Goss kicking the goal to come within two points of Castleford.
Holderness had one last chance to snatch it at the death ten meters out, but a loose pass saw Academy's Joe Willock snatch it and see the seconds out to earn Academy the game.
