Kyle Amor says his boyhood dream of winning the Tetley’s Challenge Cup can help to inspire his team in the fifth round of the competition against the Leeds Rhinos at Headingley Carnegie Stadium on Saturday (2.30pm).

The St Helens prop believes that the televised tie will be a great spectacle for Rugby League and that his team are in as good a place as ever to beat their fierce rivals.

“This isn’t just a great game for the fans to watch but for the players to be a part of too. It’s the type of game that everyone enjoys and wants to see,” said Amor.

We are entirely focused on what we’ve got to do and we are determined to build on our good run of form in the league to take us into this huge game.”

St Helens beat Leeds a couple of weeks ago in the First Utility Super League and Amor believes this gives them a huge confidence boost ahead of the tie with the Rhinos.

“We were down in numbers when we beat Leeds a few weeks ago but we drafted in some of the younger players and they were incredible. We’ve got a great set up at Saints and a hugely reliable squad to pick from,” said Amor.

“I’m sure the Rhinos will want to run away from that game and put a few wrongs right at Headingley. The crowds are always right behind them there and I’m sure they are going to give it to us. They are a team full of world class internationals and it is going to be a massive game between two talented sides.

“Hopefully we will go to Headingley healthier than when we faced them last time and give it another good crack; it’s going to be a fantastic game.”

Amor is no stranger to the Challenge Cup, having reached to the final with Leeds on two occasions when he signed for them for a season back in 2010.

The experience has left him hungry for more and he says that it is a personal dream of his to be a part of such a grand occasion.

“To get to the Challenge Cup final is something I have wanted for a long time. I was lucky enough to go with Leeds twice and although they lost, I really got a feeling of the occasion,” said Amor. “I want to be a part of that in a playing capacity, it would mean everything to me, and it’s a personal goal, a dream.

“The beauty of the Cup is that it is a one off game, form in the league almost goes out of the window, it’s all about who turns up on the day and who does it right. There is an element of luck but this is a match between two great sides and it is going to be a fantastic spectacle.”
