Hemel Stags 30-24 Oxford RLFC
Stags hold on for victory
A prolific first-half from Hemel Stags helped them to secure a 30-24 victory over Kingstone Press Championship 1 rivals Oxford at Pennine Way.
Tries from Barry John Swindells, Eddie Mbaraga and James Hill helped the Stags to a 20-0 half-time lead, but Oxford fought back in the second half and Troy Perkins' men were perhaps fortunate to secure their fourth league victory of the season.
It took until the 43rd minute for Oxford to pick up their first points of the afternoon, but once Sean Morris touched down, the Blue and Whites started to score freely.
A Sam Blaney try and a further four-pointer from Morris got Oxford right back into the match, but the Pennine Way faithful were able to relax somewhat when Mbaraga scored his second try of the match to make the game seemingly safe for the hosts.
Tommy Connick converted Rory Sharratt's try two minutes from time to reduce Hemel's lead to six points but the away side ran out of time as they searched for an equalising score.
