Leigh Centurions 26-24 Halifax RLFC
Wilkes earns dramatic win for Leigh
Leigh preserved their 100 per cent record in the Kingstone Press Championship with a thrilling 26-24 win over Halifax thanks to a last-minute try from Oliver Wilkes.
The Centurions made a lively start, racing into a 12-0 lead thanks to tries from Jonathan Pownall and Wilkes, but were heading for their first defeat when Halifax scored two tries in the last seven minutes through Luke Ambler and Luke Adamson to lead 24-20.
But Wilkes had the final say with his second try as Paul Rowley's men bounced back from their Challenge Cup quarter-final defeat at Leeds to re-establish a seven-point lead over second-placed Featherstone.
Gregg McNally scored the Centurions' other try and Martyn Ridyard kicked five goals, including a crucial 53rd-minute penalty.
Gareth Potts and Steve Tyrer were Halifax' other tryscorers, with Tyrer kicking four goals.
Both sides finished with 12 men following the dismissals of Dane Manning (Halifax) and Kurt Haggerty (Leigh) for fighting.
