Rovers snap up returning McCarthy
Ireland World Cup forward Tyrone McCarthy is to return to First Utility Super League in 2015 after signing a two-year contract with Hull KR.
The 26-year-old back-rower has spent this year with Australian outfit Northern Pride after leaving Warrington Warriors at the end of last season.
"It's been a great experience playing in Australia and it's going to leave me in good stead coming back to Super League with Hull KR," said McCarthy, who was a three-times Challenge Cup winner with the Wolves from 2009-12.
"I could have stayed at Warrington this year and been comfortable but I wanted a challenge. I've developed physically and I'll be coming back bigger, stronger and probably the fittest I've ever felt."
McCarthy, who was Ireland's vice-captain at the 2013 World Cup, is Hull KR's sixth new signing for 2015 and a straight replacement for Rhys Lovegrove, who is returning to Australia.
Hull KR coach Chris Chester said: "Tyrone gives us plenty of options in the forward pack next season. He's at the age where he is about to enter his prime as a forward and he's had big raps over in Australia for his professionalism both on and off the field, so he'll be a good fit for us."
