Hull KR recovered from a 12-point half-time deficit to defeat Salford City Reds and extend their winning streak to five matches.

The hosts looked in real danger of seeing their run of victories come to end after trailing 18-6 at the break but staged an impressive second-half fightback to take the spoils.

Rovers dominated the early exchanges but were unable to unlock the Reds defence as Liam Salter and Con Mika found their way to the line blocked.

Salford then made the most of their first spell of concerted pressure on the Rovers line by converting a ninth-minute goal-line drop out into a 6-0 lead.

Wayne Godwin backed himself to score from close range from a typical run from dummy half that caught Rovers cold and Marc Sneyd added the extras.

Rovers were their own worst enemies early on as they coughed the ball up far too often.

An error from Alex Brown was turned into a penalty when Travis Burns said something out of turn to referee Thierry Alibert. It kept the pressure on Rovers' line but the Robins were thankful when Alibert called a forward pass from Lee Gaskell to Matty Ashurst which ruled out a certain try.

It was a big call as Rovers then went down the opposite end of the pitch and scored their first try - set up and scored by two of the home side's departing stars.

Skipper and talisman Michael Dobson sidestepped his way through the Salford defence to send Cory Paterson away for the score. Dobson made no mistake with the conversion to tie the score at 6-6 after 19 minutes.

Rovers should have taken the lead in the 26th minute but Graeme Horne dropped a Burns pass a couple of metres from the Salford line.

Salford were the next to attack and with better efficiency too.

A quick play-the-ball caught Rovers’ defensive line napping for Reds skipper Stephen Wild to score. Sneyd converted to give the Reds a 12-6 lead after half an hour.

An error from Dobson attempting a 40/20 gave Salford one last opportunity to post points on the board before the half-time interval, and it was too good an opportunity for the visitors to turn down.

Theo Fages' precise kick was taken in mid-air brilliantly by Ashurst to score, and with Sneyd's third goal from three the Reds were 18-6 ahead going into the break. It could and should have been more, though.

Craig Hall's restart following Ashurst's try summed up his and Rovers' fortunes in the first half as the ball sailed out of bounds.

However, Hall redeemed himself at the start of the second period with a kick-off that Gaskell allowed to bounce in front of him. The backspin Hall put on the ball meant Ryan McGoldrick was offside when he gathered it on the ground.

From the resulting penalty, Rovers spread play wide to the left for Paterson to score his second try of the game, Dobson adding the extras.

Rovers will find it hard to replace Dobson next season and he gave another reminder why when he waltzed his way through to draw his side to within just two points of their opponents.

It was also Dobson who levelled the scores at 18-18 with his third conversion of the game.

Dobson was the difference between the two sides now, and although his pass outside was missed by Rhys Lovegrove, Hall scooped the ball up to score and give Rovers their first lead of the game.

Dobson missed his first conversion to leave four points between the sides with 14 minutes to play, but Salford could find no way back and Rovers sealed the win when Burns strolled through to score untouched with Dobson kicking the conversion to complete the scoring.
