Independent Non-Executive Director £25K

The Rugby Football League (RFL) – Offices in London, Leeds and Salford

The Rugby Football League (RFL) is the governing body for the sport of Rugby League in the United Kingdom.

With Headquarters in Leeds, and offices in London and Salford (Media City) it administers the professional, semi-professional and community game structures, the England national rugby league team and the Challenge Cup competition.

As the current contract term of one of our Non-Executive Directors Maurice Watkins CBE draws to an end, a vacancy will be created on the RFL Board comprising six Directors.

As an Independent Non-Executive Director, you will be expected to ensure that the organisation promotes exemplary corporate governance and transparency, whilst continuing to develop as an effective and commercially successful body.

Ideally with a background in the legal profession, you will be an experienced leader with at least five years Board experience. You will have recent and relevant experience within a complex multi-stakeholder environment, with excellent networking skills and demonstrable levels of commercial acumen, enabling you to contribute to the Board and assist in determining the strategic direction of the organisation.  In addition, you will possess both the ability and the gravitas to provide independent support and challenge to the Board and stakeholders.

You will be a natural collaborator able to build effective relationships with all stakeholders both within and external to Rugby League and possess high levels of political sensitivity and judgement. An understanding of Rugby League is desirable.

It is anticipated that the time commitment required to perform this role will be circa 30 days per year.

A “Relevant Association” means that at any time within the last 12 months, the person concerned is or was:

  • an official of or a partner in or the sole proprietor of a Rugby League club;
  • a creditor of a Rugby League club or the RFL (excluding normal trade credit); or a professional advisor to a Rugby League club or the RFL

Rugby League Cares Membership Manager

Rugby League Cares is seeking a Membership Manager to develop and deliver its growing membership programme.

Rugby League Cares is Rugby League’s national charity which looks after the past, present and future of the sport. Central to the charities work is a growing community of members who assist the charity at every level. We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced individual to develop and deliver plans which grow and support the charities membership programme.   

Reporting to the RL Cares General Manager the Membership Manager’s role will be to lead all activities related to the charities membership programme.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Education to at least post-graduate level or equivalent relevant experience in the work place. 
  • A good knowledge of marketing, management, administration, planning, budgeting, finance, market research and member relationship management skills and techniques.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments, stakeholders, members and suppliers.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • Good written and social skills.
  • IT literate: Familiar with using word processing, databases, spreadsheets, project management software and web applications including email, e-marketing, s-surveys, e-discussion groups, etc.

The contract is permanent and the salary will be £20,000 - 25,000 (DOE).
