Decision On Charge
Player plea Guilty
Summary of CM's submissions on the Charge / evidence The Match Review Panel carefully considered the melee which occurred in the 20th minute of this match. As you can see from the footage the melee begins following an aggressive tackle. Initially there are a small number of players involved and no punches have been thrown. A number of other players come from a significant distance to join the melee. Mr Wardle has his shirt held by an opponent and that opponent, Mr Poore, then makes contact with his face. Mr Wardle, who is holding Mr Poore’s shirt, lets go and strikes Mr Poore in the face. The Match Review Panel felt that Mr Wardle’s actions were unnecessary and categorised this offence as one of “Punching – One on One Minor” and graded it as a Grade A offence. Player represented by Head Coach Paul Anderson. Player pleads guilty to punching his opponent but this was retaliation to severe provocation. Player went into situation and saw two opponents run in. He initially went in as a peacekeeper but concedes did react by throwing punches. Did not start the incident and was remorseful for his actions that could have put his team trouble.
